Windows has also got a lot batter since the days of Windows XP, and Windows 10 is widely considered to be the best operating system Microsoft has ever released. In the whole “Mac vs PC” debate. My portion of the MAC vs PC argument. I don't condemn anyone for using PC. There are many types of users out there. For me I prefer to use a MAC because of my negative experiences with PCs.
A strong, reliable laptop is one of the most important tools for any kind of musical artist, so when you make the decision to buy one you want it to be worth both your time and money. When deciding between a MacBook or a PC, to me, the answer is simple: it depends. It depends on how long you’ve been recording, what type of music, etc. But, because there is such an overwhelming amount of information out there, the decision tends to become more complicated than it needs to be. So, I thought I would put together a post that simplifies things a bit, and provides a more rounded, unbiased opinion on which option is best for recording music in particular.
Price is always a key issue for most people and as well it should be. There is no denying, the difference in price range is astronomical between a Mac and PC. The current MacBook Pro ranges from $1000.00 to $2200.00 and yes, you can find quality PC laptops that cost less than half that amount of money. But the question is whether or not the extra money for the Mac buys you a better product. The answer is yes and no, but the good news is, it is all a matter of personal preference.
Pros
As I said before, the newest MacBook Pro is much more expensive than the PC, but you are getting a very well developed and polished product. Macs have been designed in such a way that you don’t have to be incredibly tech savvy to operate one. The engineers wanted to create less of a headache for their buyers and they accomplished this by making sure almost everything you will need the computer for is already set up for you. You can easily buy a MacBook Pro, use the already installed Garageband, install Pro Tools or Logic, and begin creating and recording your music in a matter of hours. AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE, MacBooks are much better prepared to do exactly what you need when recording your music.
Macs also have fewer viruses and better protection overall. This is important for two reasons. #1: with less viruses out there to infect your computer, Macs generally run better and more efficiently than PCs. This limits your overall frustration with your computer and allows you to work much longer without interruption or inconvenience. Reason #2: specifically because you are a musical artist, viruses expose your computer and allow for potential beat/songs jackers to steal your music. Buying a Mac would significantly limit this issue for you and allow you to once again, avoid the headache and just work on your music.
Cons

The downside to this ready-to-go Mac is that it has little wiggle room in terms of adding certain software programs and such. Because it was designed so user friendly, the makers installed everything in the hopes that the users would have little else to add. All MacBooks come with GarageBand, and work well with Pro Tools and Logic, but if you are looking to install something else, there is a small chance it is not fully compatible with the laptop itself. If you purchase a Mac, understand that you don’t have a whole lot of freedom to customize it as you please.
Obviously, the price is also a bit steep, so if you don’t have the means, the cost is often a deal breaker for a lot of people.
Pros
The first thing that jumps out at you regarding PC laptops are their prices, especially after looking at Macs. You can often find a PC that works great for your music recording for under $1000.00. So, if you are just getting started and don’t have a whole lot of money to spend, you can always find a PC that fits your price range.
Although PCs don’t always come with many of the music recording programs already installed in them like the MacBook, they are compatible with almost any kind of music software and with a certain degree of effort, you can install enough programs to make a laptop that matches or even exceeds the musical recording capabilities of a MacBook Pro. Just one of the many PC laptops that are available out there, is the Sony VAIO. It is extremely cheap and is compatible with many of the DAW program software needed to record music. However, remember there is a very broad selection of PC laptops to choose from, so be sure to check out several options.
Cons
As I said before, PCs have a much higher number of viruses, so the likelihood of your laptop picking one up is much greater than a Mac. This causes an array of problems including slower functioning which will most definitely cut into time that could be spent making music, not to mention the issue of potential song jacking from the internet.
A second disadvantage that a PC comes with is its software installment factor. PCs are made with far fewer programs already installed upon purchase, so it would be your responsibility as a buyer to research the best software, go out and buy it, and install it correctly so that it functions without problems. All this will likely have to be done before you can even start to think about recording your music. The cheaper purchase comes with a responsibility and a vision of what exactly you want the computer to do, and then you have to go out and buy the software that will get it done.
Pc Vs Mac For Gaming
As I said before, when making this decision, it all depends on a variety of factors. However, if you have the means to buy a MacBook Pro, I would highly recommend this purchase. Overall, it creates fewer problems for you as a user and allows you to focus on what you really should be focusing on: YOUR MUSIC. Because everything is almost completely set up for you upon purchase and the virus protection is outstanding, think of the extra cash that it costs to buy the laptop as money spent for uninterrupted time to work and record. Although PCs offer a much more custom quality, they ultimately leave more room for dysfunction and problems.
